Sunday Drive
Concept · CGI · Animation · Editing
Sunday Drive began as a personal project by Red Collar developer Misha Popov. It was later released under the studio’s name on VK Games. I joined when the game needed a teaser.
The idea was immediately to parody games such as Need for Speed. I recreated familiar camera angles and racing-trailer elements: drifting, tyre squeals and escaping a chase. These became the basis of the film.
I initially tried simulating the car’s driving physics. It soon became clear that this approach did not suit the film, so I switched to a ready-made rig and animated the movement. I assembled the city from existing models, randomised the car colours and placed litter, residents and trees throughout the scene. I then carefully built the car’s movement in each shot. The scene flythroughs reveal the city’s scale and the tricks used to make it look larger. I handled all the motion, editing and music selection. Igor Achin added further dynamics: camera shake, swaying on abrupt shot changes, additional colour correction and other finishing touches.
